The traditional images of American Folk Art are always uplifting to our spirits—the charming “Lancaster Barnyard” hooked rug was designed by Lori Brechlin of Amherst, Virginia and hand hooked by Wardsboro fiber Artist Linda Gifkins. It features two cheery, clucking chickens and a giant blue morning glory blooming from a basket. It is a raffle prize made in Vermont that everyone would love to win! Display it as a cozy rug by your reading chair, or show it off as a wonderful wall hanging. Just 27″ long by 20″ wide, you’ll find the perfect spot to display this eye-catching work of art. It is all wool, made with new and recycled materials, and is finished with a hand sewn binding and Linda Gifkins's official maker’s label. The retail value of the prize is estimated at $600.
The Best Raffle Ever! prize will be on display at the Wardsboro Public Library (when it reopens to the public). Chances are $5 each. The Friends will register your tickets and notify you by email of your purchase.
The Friends are very appreciative of the donation from Linda Gifkins. She says “It takes about 40 hours to complete a project like this. I love to do these classic folk art designs because they are simple, yet very expressive.” This is the fourth time one of her hooked rug creations has been offered as a raffle prize, so you don’t want to miss this one!
The drawing will be held at the Gilfeather Turnip Festival on Saturday, October 24, 2020. You do not need to be present to win. Each year, the proceeds of the Best Raffle Ever! help cover the cost of utilities and upkeep at the Gloria Danforth Memorial building, which is the home of the Wardsboro Public Library at 170 Main Street.
